Taking Care of Yourself

Working as a Senior Concierge is so rewarding.  You will feel that you are making a difference in someone's life each and everyday. Your clients and family members will be very thankful for your help and it's intoxicating.  You're adding value and you're important to people so you help even more and more and more....

I have to remind myself to slow down and take care of me too.  It's only December and I'm on my 2nd cold of the season.  This work can be overwhelming too.  There are a lot of people to help and at some points you have to take care of yourself.

This work is not all fun and games.  There is illness, family upsets, caregivers that aren't doing their jobs, lost items, confusion, and sometimes your clients die.  There is sadness.  You have to take time to heal too.  All the difficult bits can catch up with you.

Some ideas to take care of yourself:

  • Clarify your role with your clients and pull back in a way that does not hurt anyone, handing off some of the tasks to others on the care team
  • Take a day or two off every other week to be by yourself.
  • Meditation practice on a daily basis
  • Exercise!
  • Hydrate!

Love your family and friends and make time for them.

May you be Happy, be Well and Free of suffering.
